Veranillo (Nocturne pour un Été Indien)

Do you like Indian summers? This is our recomposition of "L’Été Indien" by Joe Dassin, and here is our story behind it.

Pierre played this song to me, a few months ago now, called "L’ Été Indien" by Joe Dassin. I didn’t know the title, but I immediately recognised the melody. It was a melody that my parents used to sing when I was little, in the car on the way to the beach, and I remember finding it so funny that it had no lyrics: "Daabada badabadaba daabada".

A couple of days later, the melody was still stuck firmly in my head. Having been dormant there for so many years, it just wouldn’t let go. I started playing with it on the piano, improvising and creating variations around the theme in so many different styles, until I realised that it had all the potential for a beautiful nocturne.

So, of course, Pierre and his classical training came to the rescue and we turned it into something I’m just so happy with. It feels both very old and very new to me. Old, because it brought back memories from my childhood, new because we’ve transformed it into something very expressive and very much our own. In fact, it’s so much our own that we recorded it many months ago, but have only played it in private. At home or in the car, and with a few close friends. I’m publishing it now because summer is coming to its end, and I’m really hoping for an Indian summer this year.

I hope our recomposition brings back happy memories to you too, and I hope you enjoy the last days of summer. If you like this piece, you’ll love what we’re working on next. So, stay with us and subscribe to the channel :-)

Con mucho cariño,

Belle & Pierre
